David Winslow Photographer & Owner of Galería Mañana

For the past 30 years, I have been traveling and photographing in Texas, Mexico, and the southwestern United States My work has been exhibited in galleries in Mexico and Texas. After living in Mexico for 14 years, I currently reside in Alpine, Texas, where I own and operate Galería Mañana. My work and the work of artists and artisans from Mexico are on display and for sale at the gallery. Besides my photography, on display are metal sculptures of Arturo Cabrera, a second generation metal sculptor living in Mineral de Pozos, Guanajuato, Mexico. Hand painted southwestern wooden furniture pieces from artisans in Michoacan, Mexico, are available in the gallery. Also collections of alebrijes, hand painted wood carvings from Oaxaca, Mexico, and intricately painted pottery from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico, are offered in the gallery. Mexican and Guatemalan clothing and jewelry are also sold at the gallery.

Inspiration

My inspiration comes from working hard to keep my eyes open to the world around me. I view myself as a photojournalist of the areas I pass through, hopefully discovering and capturing images of the artistry of what surrounds me.

Techniques

My photography are digital images captured generally in unstaged situations, often on the street or in settings provided by nature. I normally print in sizes up to 24 by 36 inches, using fine art or canvas media. Many of my photos are printed in black & white.

career highlights

I have developed photo collections focusing on specific geographic and ethnic areas, religious icons, and the desert environs of Mexico and west Texas. Photographing street art is another emphasis for my work.
